What to Do Before Hard Mode

Hard Mode is not just normal mode with bigger rewards. The official Discord update collection confirms Hard Mode, Research Outpost, Rifts, and the Corruption System as part of the January 24, 2026 update. That means players need stronger discipline before they start.

Readiness Checklist

Try Hard Mode only when normal runs feel controlled:

  • The Campfire rarely runs out.
  • The team returns before night without panic.
  • Food and healing are prepared before deep routes.
  • Cultist pressure does not break the base immediately.
  • Players understand missing child rescue timing.
  • Someone is ready to monitor corruption pressure.

If normal mode still collapses around fuel, food, or basic defense, Hard Mode will mostly amplify those problems.

Team Roles

Assign roles before starting. One player watches Campfire and supplies. One player leads routes. One player tracks Hard Mode pressure. One player handles food or support. The exact split can change, but the team needs ownership.

Do Not Enter Yet If

  • Normal runs still lose the Campfire during routine nights.
  • Players leave camp without agreeing on a return trigger.
  • Food is treated as random loot instead of planned recovery.
  • Cultist pressure makes the group scatter.
  • The team has not practiced rescue routes and safe returns.

Hard Mode should be a deliberate challenge. If the team is using it only because rewards sound better, the likely result is a shorter run with more wasted setup time.

What To Practice First

Practice short normal-mode cycles: fuel, food, scout, return, defend, rescue. Once that loop feels stable, Hard Mode becomes a planned challenge instead of a random punishment.

Next Fix

Read Hard Mode for the main system, then Rifts and Corruption for what to monitor during the run.
