Wendigo
The Wendigo is the primary antagonist creature in 99 Nights in the Forest. Tall, gaunt, and impossibly fast, it stalks the forest during the night hours and becomes increasingly aggressive as the days progress. Encountering a Wendigo unprepared is almost always fatal.

Behavior & Attack Patterns
- Patrol Mode: Wanders a set territory during early nights; ignores players beyond detection range
- Hunt Mode: Once it detects you (sound or line of sight), it chases relentlessly until you hide or escape
- Scream Attack: Emits a paralyzing shriek that slows player movement for 3 seconds
- Lunge Strike: Closes distance rapidly with a leaping attack — deals maximum damage
- Escalation: After Night 5, it begins stalking player camps even during daytime
Survival Strategies
- Stay Silent: Sprinting generates noise that attracts Wendigos — walk near camp at night
- Campfire Deterrent: Bright fires keep the Wendigo at bay; never let your campfire go out at night
- Iron Axe: The best weapon for fighting back — aim for the head for maximum damage
- Flashlight: Briefly stuns the Wendigo when aimed directly at its face
- Flee, Don’t Fight: In the early game, running and hiding is safer than direct combat
