Fishing

Fishing is a support mechanic. It is not the first thing a new player should chase, but once the campfire is stable it can add food, healing, ammo, scrap, gem-related loot, and special items to a run.

Requirements

RequirementNotes
Old RodFound through chests, trader routes, Fishing Cabinets, or a Fisherman class start
PondFishing works at ponds; ripple spots can make bites faster
Time bufferFishing is slow if the team is already behind on fire, food, or defense

Fishing becomes safer after the campfire has been upgraded enough to open the map and give the team a reliable path back.

What Fishing Can Give

The Fandom Fishing page lists fish, healing items, ammunition, scrap, gem-related drops, and rare special loot among possible fishing content. That makes fishing useful for longer runs, especially when the team wants extra food and recovery without overextending into dangerous structures.

yay fishing Code Note

yay fishing is different from normal 99 Nights in the Forest codes. It is activated during a live run while fishing with a rod equipped. GamesRadar describes the route as getting an Old Rod, standing by a fishing hole, typing yay fishing in chat while fishing, then collecting the dropped Gems.

Because this is not a normal lobby code, players should not waste time trying to redeem it through the Currency Shop code box.

When to Fish

  • Good time: campfire stable, food reserve started, daylight available.
  • Good time: one player can fish while another scouts or hauls fuel.
  • Bad time: night is close and nobody has prepared the return route.
  • Bad time: the fire is low and the group still has no cooked food.

Beginner Verdict

Fishing is a strong mid-run stabilizer, not an opening priority. First secure fire and food. Then use fishing to add backup supplies and claim the special yay fishing reward once.

Fishing Route Checklist

Use fishing only when the route can support the time cost:

  • Campfire fuel is stable.
  • At least one player knows the route back.
  • Food is not already an emergency.
  • The team has enough daylight for the return.
  • The player trying yay fishing understands it is not a lobby code.

If these checks fail, fish later. The reward is not worth losing the base.
